With less than two weeks of preparation, Benefit Championship Wrestling and CWF Mid-Atlantic presented the DEON GRAVES MEMORIAL BATTLE ROYAL BENEFIT at the Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium. A vocal supportive crowd arrived to support Graves' surviving family and to be entertained with some high-flying hard-hitting pro wrestling action.
Singles action kicked off the evening's contests with the popular "Cowboy" Kool Jay out to take on the masked 2018 Model Number Man. The size advantage of the "most cut Number Man in history" didn't cause the Cowboy to back down for even a second, as he rode the range and finished off the masked rustler with a convincing pinfall.
Donnie BitDon entered next for singles action, scooping up the Number Man and placing him in his own corner as his opponent Mike Mars is introduced. The two big men collided in the center of the ring and the building shook as the mastadons roared and brawled. Mars took a late advantage which caused the masked man at ringside to become involved, giving every helping hand possible out of the view of the rookie referee. The BitDon Corporation's assets bumped up once again with a big pinfall win over Mike Mars, regardless of the circumstances.
Tag team action was introduced next, pitting the current Corruption lineup of Ethan A. Sharpe and Dirty Daddy against the popular TKOPA team of Ulysee Demos and Teddy Ireland Jr. Cain Justice entered as a second for Corruption and did running commentary from the floor at ringside as the fight got heated. The four went to battle with Ireland show off his handspeed to Dirty Daddy and Sharpe tried to control the match from both the ring and the apron. Justice, on the floor, begins explaining what the flaws of the "plan" are to Sharpe as Dirty Daddy tags in. Justice gets the last laugh at his own team as TKOPA takes a big pinfall win from the more seasoned Corruption team.
A Special Attraction Non-Title Singles bout was introduced, pitting two major champions against each other. PWI International Heavyweight Champion All Star Roy Wilkins entered to take on CWF Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Trevor Lee with no seconds in either corner as they renew their incredible series of contests. Trevor Lee started out quick, taking control at the bell and tormenting Wilkins on the canvas and while standing. Wilkins took a moment to sort out the situation and began returning the torment with his own brand of offensive wrestling in a surprisingly close match. Lee kept to his plan of attack and actually forced the PWI Champion to submit in the middle of the ring for a big non-title win.
Young A.J. Daniels answered the bell to take on veteran All Star "Ace" Arik Royal for the new American Lucha Wrestling Heavyweight Championship and a contrast of styles immediately became visible. Daniels actually expressed a couple of times during the physical portions of the bout "Lucha! Lucha!" but the ground-and-pound Royal steamroller continued to roll forward from bell to bell. Royal didn't get much of a chance to toy with the lightning quick Daniels, as he was one of the most elusive opponents Royal has faced in recent memory, but he did got his shots in and was able to pin the shoulders of A.J. Daniels to become the first ALW World Heavyweight Champion.
Twelve men stepped into the fray for the main event DEON GRAVES MEMORIAL BATTLE ROYAL for an over-the-top-rope battle for the Graves Memorial Trophy. Trey Havok, Number Man and Donnie BitDon were the first three eliminated with the "Wild Thing" Larry Isley exiting next. Both members of TKOPA, Teddy Ireland Jr. and Ulysse Demos were then eliminated followed by an early favorite, Snooty Foxx. When it got down to the final four competitors, only Corruption's Ethan Sharpe and Dirty Daddy stood against Mike Mars and Nick Richards. Mars was ganged up on and sent to the floor and Sharpe goes to the floor and procures a steel chair for an assault on Richards. Nick Richards saw him coming, grabbed the chair while Cain Justice ran in from the lobby and eliminated Dirty Daddy, and sends Sharpe to the floor to win the main event.
Richards spent several minutes sharing memories of Deon Graves with everyone in attendance before the fans broke up into smaller groups before exiting the arena.
BREAKING NEWS! Benefit Championship Wrestling, CWF Mid-Atlantic and American Lucha Wrestling helped raise $810.00 in donations for the Deon Graves family, all under the direction of BCW founder Jimmy Harris, give the man a hand!
